Being a coach at the college and HS level I noticed the problems with not having a shot clock. High School basketball in the state of Pennsylvania where I coached had no shot clock. There are many other states without them as well. In my opinion this leads to long dragged out possessions and honestly hurting the development in the players overall that are still playing in these non shot clock states. I have watched many possessions where teams are just holding the ball against better teams or late in the game with 5-6 mins left are wasting the clock. My question is at that point are you really playing basketball? or just holding a ball on a court. There are many more things but what are your thoughts?
